I’ve previously mentioned a few shows I have enjoyed over the past few years, such as Bosch, Schitt’s Creek, Broadchurch, Safe, The Undoing, West Wing, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Ozark.
But over the past couple of weeks, my wife and I have semi-binge watched the show, Ted Lasso.
And I think this may be my favorite of all of them. Here is a description of the show from Wikipedia:
Ted Lasso is an American comedy streaming television series developed by Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, based on a character of the same name that Sudeikis first portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League. The series premiered with the first three episodes on Apple TV+ on August 14, 2020, and was renewed for a second season consisting of twelve episodes five days after its premiere. In October 2020, the series was renewed for a third season.
The premise of the show is that Lasso (played by Sudeikis) is an American football coach who led the Wichita State Shockers to a Division II National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. He is hired to coach AFC Richmond, an association football team. A folksy American, he is seen as unsophisticated and knowing nothing about football/soccer, but is smarter than he looks. He loves to coach and cares more about people than wins.
Sudeikis originally debuted the titular character in 2013 as part of a series of commercials for NBC Sports promoting their coverage of the Premier League, in which Lasso is depicted as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Television producer and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence was brought in to work on a television series based around the character in 2017. The series was commissioned in October 2019 by Apple TV+. The first season had 10 episodes.
Lawrence has indicated that Ted Lasso will be likely a “three-season show” due to the limited availability of Sudeikis beyond the third season. Lawrence went on to say that the story has a planned resolution within those three seasons.
It’s funny. It’s touching. It has great characters. It has sports running in the background. It’s set in England. It has pubs.
How can you not like a show that has all of that going on?
I’m already looking forward to season two. And there’s a good chance I’ll re-watch season one as a refresher, something I rarely do.
Is there such a thing as too much choice, at least for lazy folks like me? There are many outstanding shows I’ll probably never see. I appreciate the heads up on this series.

The problem with this show is that it’s on Apple TV. I only have Android.

I know, it’s somewhat limited being on Apple TV…

If it isn’t on Netflix or Amazon Prime, there’s not much chance I’ll be able to watch it. Which is too bad, because there are some pretty good shows elsewhere.

we got Apple TV+ for free for a year when I bought an iPad…

Another one I’ve never heard of, though it sounds like something I would enjoy. I seem to have similar tastes as you, so that’s another reason to consider this one.

If you do get a chance to watch it, I’d be curious what you think…

Well, there is no arguing the comedic talent behind this one. And, your description sold me on the entertainment value. Now, I just have to find time to watch. I am lucky if I can watch one program with any regularity. Enjoy this one to the fullest as those seasons will go by quickly!

it is tough to find the time to watch all the great shows that are out there. I am looking forward to the next two seasons!

this sounds like a great watch, but don’t have Apple TV. hopefully it will find it’s way to other platforms over time –

it’s a shame that it’s on Apple TV, since that seems to have the smallest number of subscribers…

Always nice to know what others are watching. We are struggling with Schitt’s Creek though. There currently is a blog post about rolling around new my head. I may try a couple more episodes before I write it. If I write it.

Schitt’s Creek was also one of our favorites…

Thanks for encouraging me to watch it. I’m two episodes in and loving it. Anything that has the gorgeous Juno Temple in it is likely to get my vote anyway. Another good thing is that I’m now in the 17th month of my free 12 months intro to Apple TV+, and still another 4 months to go. There’s some good stuff there, isn’t there?

glad you enjoyed it. we just watched a movie with Juno in it: Palmer. I think it was also on Apple TV+

It’s good so far!
That’s the one with Justin Timberlake, and it’s on my watchlist. Have you seen Little Birds? You get to see a lot of Juno in that 😉

I have not heard of Little Birds. I will see if I can find it; thanks for the recommendation…

It got mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it. It’s based on short stories by Anais Nin, and Juno is the lead. She’s the daughter of Julien Temple and has been on screen since she was 11. If you look it up, make sure you get the 6 part tv series, as she was also in a film with the same title some years ago.

He’s a film director, mostly of music videos. English, so a lot of them have been made here.

I am a fan of music videos and commercials; to me it takes a lot of talent to tell a story in such a short time period…

They’re an art form in themselves, aren’t they? If you look him up you’ll see a long list – he’s been doing it for a while.

I just read about him – seems to have done a lot of work with the Sex Pistols. But what I liked best about his bio was that he got expelled from grammar school, but still was able to go to King’s College at Cambridge…

His next school must have been a good one! His sister was a Communist – odd family!

I don’t think as many people have Apple TV as the other streaming services, which is unfortunate. And just by the name, I can see why you would enjoy Travelers. I’ll have to see if we have access to it…
