Qarrtsiluni.
That was the title of Seth Godin’s blog post today.
Here’s the full post:
This is the Inuit word for “sitting together in the darkness, quietly, waiting for something creative or important to occur.” Of course, this works. The only difficult part is doing it. We’re buzzy people, inundated with noise, using it to hide from the important work that’s right in front of us.
The first time I read it I thought that perfectly describes what I do every night when trying to write my blog.
But then I read it a second time and realized there were a couple of key differences.
First I’m sitting alone.
And second, it doesn’t always work.
I have mastered the ‘sitting in the darkness quietly waiting for something creative or important to occur’, with emphasis on the word waiting.
But as the title of my blog suggests, nothing creative or important happens and what I’m left with is just a lot of blather.
Maybe what I’m doing every night is a half-qarrtsiluni…
Qarrtsiluni sounds a lot like borborygmus to me. Especially when sitting in the dark, doing nothing, waiting for something creative or important to occur.

Strangely enough all your “creative nothing” is entertaining to read. 😀

The good thing is that you’re able to churn out material while working in the dark. I normally end up falling asleep lol

I think the correct term may be psuedo-qarrtsiluni, but that is all just semantics. I agree with Jessica. If those darkened periods of expectant waiting produces what makes it to your blog, then your “nothing” has always been entertaining. Which says nothing about your commitment to writing that has you continuing to post daily while recovering from an injury that would leave the rest of us on hiatus for quite a long time. Hope your a recovering well and my best to you and yours!

I see that you are strengthening your vocab over this time. Thanks for the new word and keep healing! Miss hearing from you in “comments” but so glad that your injury hasn’t stopped you from blathering!
