That may have been the headline for the casting call for the new television series based on stories from “The Lord of the Rings” that begins production next year in New Zealand.
According to a story in the Wall Street Journal, expectations are for the TV series to feature thousands of extras each season.
Here are some of the types they are looking for:
- hairy people of all ages and ethnicities
- toothless/missing teeth
- look like a leather handbag or have a gazillion wrinkles
- extremely tall and short
- wonderful noses
- stocky mean-looking bikers
- individuals with many freckles
- redheads
- androgynous men and women
- face a little ugh
My guess is these are not the typical qualities that casting directors are usually seeking.
But I am sure they will get a good response; extras get paid about $200 per day and their meals are covered. Plus, it’s a chance to be part of one of the most well-known stories and be seen by millions around the world.
One person thinks he might have hit the genetic jackpot for a role. “Basically I’m short, I’ve got red hair and I’ve got missing teeth.”
I sure hope he gets it. I don’t know if his features will ever be in this much demand again…
Heh. Interesting. Anyway, I am more interested with the possibility for more things involving Middle Earth. What would they be making now, I wonder…

I’ve never read any of the Lord of the Rings books or seen any of the movies.

That is quite the list! Although $200 a day and meals isn’t bad!!

There’s hope for us all to have our 15 minutes of fame. My daughter lives in NZ. I’ll get her headhunting for candidates when she goes home after Christmas.

What a unique opportunity for those who look like the rest of us. There will be long days on set, but I have never had food on a movie set that was not exceptional at the least. No SAG card for non-speaking roles and likely no film credit, but still what an amazing story to tell! Fun post!

It would be fun to get a behind the scenes look at how a show gets made.

One can only wish they expanded a little more on what they meant by “wonderful noses” 😁

I’ve always thought it would be fun to be an extra, whatever one looked like, or had to do. All the fun of the film set without having to learn any lines.

200 per day with meals covered? That’s a lot for a person with no job. I wish I can do extra too 😂

Seems like a good deal. I’m sure there are people who would do it for free.
