Once again, I want to thank Coti Howell of Nashville Noise for making me aware of a new country artist, Tenille Arts.
Here is some background info on Tenille, from her web site:
Born and raised in the small prairie town of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Tenille Arts picked up the guitar and penned her first song at the age of 13 and has been performing across the US and Canada ever since. She made her first appearance on The Bachelor in January 2018 performing her original song “Moment of Weakness.” The appearance resulted in a record deal with powerhouse indie label Reviver Records. She returned to The Bachelor in January 2019 to perform her original song “I Hate This.” The day following the appearance, the single hit #1 on the U.S. and Canadian iTunes Country Charts, #6 all-genre and #2 music video. Her 2017 Rebel Child album re-entered the iTunes Country Albums Chart at #4. Tenille’s music has tallied over 8 million streams. Tom Roland was so moved by her music that he has penned two full-page features in the Billboard Country Update. Music Row Magazine critic Robert K. Oermann called Tenille “Promising in the extreme.” Pandora named her one of their new artists to watch, and CMT included her in their “Ten Must-See Indies You Need to Know,” a video discovery program that spotlights rising independent artists and established artists from independent labels. Rolling Stone named Tenille one of their “10 New Country Artists You Need To Know,” calling her “An edgy, Fearless-era Taylor Swift with crystalline vocals; ideal for hopeless romantics who are fire signs,” and PopCulture named her one of their “Country Artists to Watch in 2018.”
Here is the song Moment of Weakness that led to her record deal:
and here is her most successful song, I Hate This:
And here is her latest release, Call You names, both a tribute and apology to her mom for those “teen years”:
As you can see and hear, Tenille has a beautiful voice; it’s hard to believe she’s from Canada – she sounds like she grew up in Nashville.
A feature piece on Romper notes the following about Tenille:
Several years ago, Tenille posted a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Fifteen” on YouTube which garnered the attention of a Nashville manager. It didn’t work out then, so she returned back to Canada to hone her craft — ultimately landing a deal in 2015 with Noble Vision Music Group in, you guessed it, Nashville. “Moving to Nashville was one of the best career moves I could have made,” she said. “I have fully immersed myself into the country music scene, and I’m collaborating with new people every day. I used to write whenever I felt the inspiration, but now I’m writing almost every day and the progress has been rewarding.” She admitted she needed that time to figure out her “sound,” and it looks like she was right.
And now it appears she is ready for prime time.
The Nashville Noise article noted that Tenille is set to make her debut at the Grand Ole Opry on September 21.
“I could not be more honored and excited to be stepping on to the Grand Ole Opry stage to make my debut,” she gushed. “I have dreamed about this moment for a long time and I can’t wait to celebrate that night with my family and friends.”
I also learned something about the Grand Ole Opry while putting this post together. Tenille will be performing with several other artists that evening, and I was not sure if it was some sort of special concert featuring multiple artists. So I went to the Opry web site and found this:
The Grand Ole Opry is the show that made country music famous. The Opry features a dynamic line-up of new stars, superstars, and legends of country music. Unlike a typical concert, the Opry presents eight or more artists on each show, giving the audience a sample of each artist’s musical style. Only the Opry … there’s nothing quite like it anywhere else!
That sounds like something fun to do – see several artists in one show.
Congratulations to Tenille, and I wish her continued success.
(And in case you were wondering, yes, her parents did name her after Tenille of Captain and Tenille!)
So glad you like her!

Tenile does not have the powerful voice Canadian KD Lang.

There’s no doubt that KD Lang has an amazing voice (just listened to her sing Hallelujah). But Tenille also has a wonderful voice, that I think is more country than KD.
