I’ve always secretly hoped that someday I’ll realize some financial benefit from writing my blog.
After seven years, I’m still waiting.
I think I have a better chance of keeping my students awake during an accounting lecture.
But then I received the following comment on one of my blog posts:
An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a coworker who has been conducting a little homework on this. And he in fact ordered me lunch due to the fact that I found it for himβ¦ lol. So allow me to reword thisβ¦. Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to talk about this matter here on your site.
And so while I didn’t receive any financial reward for the blog post, at least somebody did.
And that’s gotta count, right?
P.S. This comment was in my spam folder, which brings into play the whole idea that maybe there is no such thing as a free lunch…

Well a free lunch for someone is something good, right?

Those co-workers and family members feature in my spam often, too. Did it come with a link to a Russian porn site? If not, youβve been robbed π
LikeLiked by 1 person
surprisingly there was no link. but do have several spam comments that appear to be written in Russian. I even translated one using Google translate, hoping it might be some get rich quick offer…

I reckon about half of the ones I get have that kind of script. I often wonder what they say but if theyβre like the ones allegedly written in English they probably arenβt worth the risk or the time.

The one I translated said “Hello, I am looking for a master to create a web site.”

Makes a change from wanting a master to dominate them, I guessβ¦

I’m never sure how much people make from their blogs but I find the ads very intrusive and don’t bother reading them any more. i think the amount is quite small so it’s not worth it in my opinion. why not work to get your articles published in mainstream media and get paid properly, and well.
LikeLiked by 1 person
yes, I am annoyed when there are ads on blog posts as well.
I’d try to get my articles published in mainstream media, but I know there would be no interest…

Don’t think that way. There is always someone waiting to read an article such as you’d write, you just need to research a little to find the outlet. Even if you write for peanuts (a copy of the mag) to start with you’ll find your market eventually. You can write, you’ve proven it with these blogs. There will be rejections but you’ll overcome those, so go on, trust yourself, what have you got to lose?

Those spam comments all seem to be the same four or five used over and over. None of mine have ever mentioned free lunch. Maybe this is the real deal. Some bloggers put a “buy me a cup of coffee” paypal link on their blog. Instead, I put a “buy my book” link in the sidebar. It’s not clear to me if anyone’s ever used it… but I think not.

A free lunch of spam doesn’t sound very appetizing to me. I think you got something better–a blog idea to help you continue your streak.

One degree of separation to the lunch! Certainly better than the 6 degrees of separation that most have to count on π

Lol, I share the same sentiments on blogging and money. I don’t think the two will ever intersect for me. Either that, or I’ll have to totally overhaul the way I do things.
And that comment seems legit though, not something a bot would say. So many legit comments have entered my Spam folder as well. Best way to find out? Just google the comment and see if it appears anywhere else.

I just typed that comment into Google, and it returned multiple uses of the exact same phrase!

I’m surprised that WP caught it as spam, because it doesn’t seem like typical spam. maybe the email address was suspect…

If its in the spam folder then it must have been a free lunch after all that is where I get my most complimentary comments! “This post is amazing and your blog is the bestest one I ever come across. By the way do you need help with keywords as I think it crime such a life changing post is not seen by more person”
