Have We Reached a Tipping Point? I Sure Hope So.

An editorial on the front page of the New York Times, the first time the paper has done so since 1920.

President Obama talks to the nation from the Oval Office, only the third time he has done so during his seven years as President.

Last week, fourteen people died in San Bernardino in the worst terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11.

Last month, three people were killed in Colorado Springs.

What do all of these recent events have in common?

Guns and gun control.

The victims were all killed by assault style weapons, and the New York Times and President Obama are asking the American people to support stricter gun control laws.

Why do such weapons even exist?

How were the killers able to get such weapons?

I’m hoping that with the visibility of front page editorials and speeches from the Oval Office, that serious gun control laws will be put into place and just as important, enforced.

While my ideal gun control law would be complete abolishment of all guns, I would be happy if we took gradual steps in that direction.

If you’re ready to take those first steps, then join others in the Philadelphia Wear Orange Walk this Saturday at 2:00 at the Cosmic Cafe on Boathouse Row.

Enough…
