I first wrote about the fun fact that LEGO is the world’s largest tire manufacturer, producing over 700 million tires per year, on June 24, 2018. The post got eight views that day, and another eleven the next day.
Like most posts, the number of views quickly faded away over the next few weeks.
But then by October of 2018, for a reason I’ll never know, it started to get multiple views every day, and for the month of October it received close to 300 views.
It then took off. In November of 2018 it received 849 views, and was the most viewed post that month.
Remarkably, it held that title for the next 20 months!
There were a couple of highlights along the way, which I also wrote about.
On September 5, 2019, my blog stats went crazy, as shown in the chart below. Back then, my blog would normally get between 350-400 views per day. On that one day, I had nearly 5,400 total views, and over 5,000 of those views were related to the LEGO tires post.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
On May 13 of this year, my stats really went crazy, thanks to Reddit. Someone had made a link to my LEGO tires story on Reddit, and my views exploded, as shown below. On that date, my total views were over 10,000 and the LEGO post accounted for over 9,600 of those views.
Things started to settle down after that, and August 2020 marked the end of the streak of the LEGO tire post being my most viewed post for the month.
For August, my most viewed post was It’s a Good Thing I Don’t Have Too Many Followers, with over 1,400 views. I give credit to the Clarks for the boost in views on that particular post. The LEGO tire story came in second at just over 1,300 views.
At this point, the LEGO tire story has had over 59,000 views since its November 2018 debut. In a sign of how well received the post has been, it has received a whopping total of 11 likes and 21 comments, of which eight are mine.
So far for this September, it is my second most viewed post with 145 views. I have a feeling it may recapture the crown as the most viewed post by the end of the month, but at much lower numbers than it has seen on the past.
It’s been a good ride with the LEGO tires, but I’m not sure I’ll have another post like that. My second most viewed post of all time, Perhaps There Is a Method to the (Tootsie Roll) Madness at Planet Fitness, has less than 11,000 views.
But I hold out hope for a new generation of Reddit savvy tire and LEGO lovers to come along. If not, I may never get a chance to write about my stats again ๐ฆ
That’s weird.
Another weird thing is that some posts seem to attract more spam comments than others. I think WP should have a stat for that.

I have not noticed that about the spam comments – I’ll have to keep an eye out for it…

Wow those are some stats! I’m going to have to go and read your LEGO tire post now even though I’m not into tires and can’t even drive. I did like LEGO though Once Upon a Time. One of my friends was actually talking about LEGOLAND the other day. I never would have thought there was a link between LEGO and tires but you learn something new every day. ๐

to me, LEGOS are the best toy for kids – they just spark the imagination. And we have a LEGOland about 15 minutes away from us. It seems like an odd kind of place, to be honest.

thia is a ‘dream come true’ post for you, positive stats up the wazoo! sometimes there is no accounting for which post makes it to the big show, and which does not, we just have to ride the wave when it happens –

you are right, Beth, there is no rhyme or reason. I am just amazed how long this post has remained my most popular…

I guess if I ever had an uptick like that in my stats, I may become a little obsessed with them too. As Beth said, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to why something gets such strong attention. But I am one of those who read that post and it was entertaining, informative, fun, and well written! I don’t think people were reading it by accident. The only thing on my blog that gets counted in the ten thousand range is how many times I have checked my stats. Don’t overthink it, Jim! Just ride it while it lasts. Wonder what your next stat-buster post will be about?

thanks, Brad; I just hope you don’t get into the stat-checking habit that I am in! ๐ It’s a black hole…

Just went over to read the Lego post so you are one up. But seriously, it’s awesome when this happens (and maybe I should write a post about tires)

thanks for the view! It is fun when the stats go crazy every once in a while!

Amazing! I went back to your Legos post since you awakened my curiosity. After growing up in a generation filled with the basic Legos, I should have traded in mine for some stock certificates.

Yes, what a great company, for both kids, and investors!

You hit the stats jackpot with your Lego post. The possibility of a result like that, no matter how remote, keeps me playing the blogging game.

Who would have thought that would be your most popular post! LOL! I will have to read it. My son LOVED Legos when he was little and could build better things than I could. ๐

Congrats on the stats! Since I average about 18 views on a really good day on my new blog, your stats seem remarkable! My old blog had a post about induction pots and pans – it had about 74,000 views over the course of many years. You just never know what will be a hit with someone who has the linking power to make you sort of famous!

wow – 74,000 views for one post! were you able to carry the post over to your new site? And you are right, you never know what will make a blog post popular…

I moved the post but couldn’t move the stats, of course. No views since. I had my ’15 minutes of fame’!
My circle of readers/fellow bloggers has shrunk a lot in the last few months. They were mostly all older people like me and with the ‘Rona virus and the summer they have folded up their tents. Might be temporary, might be for good… The circle of blogging life…

the views of my tire post are starting to fade away as well. I’m sorry to hear about your blogging circle; hopefully some will come back when things are back close to what they used to be like…
