Was there anything better as a kid than plopping down in front of the TV with a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and singing along with the theme song of your favorite cartoon shows?
I can hear some snickering, but I dare you to not sing along as you listen to a baker’s dozen of some of my favorites.
The Flintstones
Mighty Mouse:
Felix the Cat:
Wally Gator:
Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har:
The Jetsons:
Top Cat:
Underdog:
Secret Squirrel:
George of the Jungle:
Speedracer:
Astroboy:
Tobor the Eighth Man:
Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck
Scooby Doo
Spiderman
Watching all those songs brings back some great memories, and makes me long for those days when I had no agenda and no responsibilities. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning…

We didn’t have TV when I was growing up. When I came to America in 1976 I was introduced to all sorts of shows. The Flinstones being one of them. And the other was Batman.

nothing like the Flintstones and Batman to immerse yourself in American culture! 🙂

Classics that I can relate to – I’m date-stamped 1962 – and some cool, obscure one’s I must’ve missed back in the day. We had an ancient B&W TV set with rabbit ears (okay, wire coat hanger …) and 3 local channels until about 1975. My all-time favorite is This Is It (Bugs Bunny Overture). Fab post, Jim.

Thanks, Michael. I’m 1957, and I think we had the same TV set. I remember when UHF channels came out, and the day we got a color TV. I just added a Bugs Bunny clip at the end, thanks!

I think I’d have trouble picking a favorite, but of the ones I included, I guess I would pick Underdog. I also liked the Roadrunner, but I don’t think there was a song to go with it.

I liked the roadrunner too and I don’t remember a song with it either!

Nothing like Saturday mornings, for it would have been in 80’s~ I loved the Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Scooby Doo. Thanks for taking me back

those are three great ones. I don’t even know if there are still new cartoons being made today.

Guilty as charged! I can remember almost all of these, from Fred and Barney to Mighty Mouse (“here I come to save the day!”). I must confess I found myself addicted to a few of these back in the day.

I had the same addiction. I wonder if that addiction was any healthier than the social media addiction that some kids have these days…

In my day, we were outside all of the time . . . sandlot baseball and football, riding bicycles, playing basketball, ice skating . . . just to name a few. We had time for Saturday mornings with cartoons while we took a short respite.
