After 12 years of Catholic school and thousands of Sundays spent in church, I’ve heard a lot of “church” music. Over those years, there are a few songs that have become my favorites, and this past weekend, while at a wedding, I decided that “Gentle Woman” is probably my favorite.
Here are some of the others. (No Christmas songs included).
Amazing Grace, performed by Celtic Woman:
Morning Has Broken. While made famous by Cat Stevens, this song was actually a Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, “Bunessan”.

The only Church songs I have heard live are ones from the funeral mass. Thanks for sharing your favourites 🙂

I’m guessing that funeral songs are probably the most well known of church songs…

These are lovely. There was a hymn I loved called “On Eagles Wings”. It had a beautiful message, chorus and melody. 🎼🎼🎼
