According to Urban Dictionary, the phrase has been around for 12 years, but I just heard it for the first time when I saw this commercial from AT&T:
While it’s easy enough to tell from the commercial what the tattoo artist means when he tells his victim customer to stay in his lane, I still wanted to check online just to be sure.
