Congrats to the Eagles, from London

What a game, it kept me on edge until the final play. After all, the opponent was Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Thankfully his Hail Mary pass fell to the ground and time expired.

Philadelphia Eagles. Super Bowl Champs.

My son and I managed to stay up for the entire game. It didn’t start until about 11:30 local time, and was over close to 3:30 in the morning.

The game was broadcast on BBC1. I thought it would be fun to listen to the game being broadcast by a team of British announcers, but that’s not quite what happened. Plus, there was the London connection, with Jay Ajayi, the Eagles running back, being a London native.

The game itself was the official NBC sports broadcast, so we got to listen to Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth do the play by play. But then whenever there was a cut to a commercial, the BBC went back to its own team of broadcasters, led by Mark Chapman, a local sports announcer. Chapman was joined by former NFL players Osi Umenyiora and Jason Bell who provided their analysis of the game.

It was an interesting way to watch the game. I’ll admit I missed the commercials (I plan to binge watch them some day this week and pick my favorites), but it was a nice way to get some extra insight into the game, beyond what Collinsworth and Michaels had to say.

I did think about listening to Merrill Reese’s radio broadcast while watching the game on TV with the sound off, but there was close to a minute delay, so it didn’t work.

When I got up this morning, I read as many Philadelphia reporters’ summaries of the game as I could find and looked at photos and videos of the fans celebrating.

Looked like Philly was the place to be last night.

It’s the crowning achievement for the city, which has seen the Pope’s visit, the Democratic national convention, and being named a finalist for Amazon’s second headquarters.

Plus just yesterday I wrote about how an international ranking of cities placed Philadelphia in the top 10, and the third best in the U.S.

So there’s no doubt Philly is a great city, I’m sure Thursday’s parade will be a chance for millions to show their love for the Eagles, and the city.
