Looking for a Reason to Riot? How about Discounted Jars of Nutella!

Intermarché supermarkets, a chain of grocery stores in France recently offered a 70% discount on Nutella, bringing the price down from €4.50 to €1.40.

The result – riot police were called in to control the situation.

As one customer put it – “They are like animals. A woman had her hair pulled, an elderly lady took a box on her head, another had a bloody hand.”

All of Intermarché’s supply of Nutella was snapped up within 15 minutes and one customer was given a black eye,

All of this for a jar of chocolate and hazlenut spread.

I’ve tried Nutella before, and I really wanted to like it, and assumed I would. After all, it combines two of my favorite food items – chocolate and hazlenut.

However, it did nothing for me, and after those first couple of initial attempts, I have not had it since.

So perhaps I am not alone; some people tried it once, and need to encouraged to do so again.

The deep discount seemed to do the trick, and the riots helped attract even more publicity.

I am sure Nutella is quite happy with the outcome, particularly since it did not cost the company anything, the discounts appear to have been fully funded by the grocery store chain, and the media covered the story for free.

Since I can’t offer a discount on my blog, I’ve got to think of some way(s) to create a riot to get people to read my postings.

Maybe some catchy, fake news headlines could do the trick.

Be on the lookout; first come, first serve.
