One of my favorite quotes, author unknown, is:
“the best way to predict the future is to create it.”
And now I’m living proof of the truthiness of this quote (how’d you like that, going back to the word of the year for 2005 – truthiness!)
Anyway, so here’s the way it happened. A little over a year ago (13 January 2025 – notice how worldly I’ve become), I wrote a post:
I See Sporadic Blogging Activity in My Near Future
The reason for the prediction was because I was going to be teaching in Sydney, Australia for a couple of months, and I wasn’t sure how much time I would have to spend on blogging. Well, as it turned out, my prediction was right on target. My next blog post wasn’t until more than a year later; in fact it was just this past Monday (February 9, 2026 – forget that worldly stuff, I’m sticking with the correct way of writing a date).
So there you have it. I predicted the future by creating it. By any measure, most people would consider such a gap between posts as sporadic blogging activity.
I feel that I’m onto something here.
So my next prediction?
I predict that I will take an afternoon nap sometime within the next week.
I look forward to trying to create the future.

I admitted to my wife that I told a lie, then promised I’d try to be more honest in the future, just like Honest Abe Lincoln. She responded by suggesting we go to the theater.
It’s nice to have you back. I don’t know how long you plan to stay, nor can I predict it. But I’ll bet you can.

you may want to hold off on that theater date.
and I can’t predict my future blogging habits, except beyond hopeful…

I see they’re offering a new class at Villanova: Introduction to Palm Reading by Professor Borden. Two days in a row, Jim. Look out, Ripken. He’s back!

I’m sure students would find the Palm Reading course much more interesting than Intro to Accounting. and perhaps just as useful.
fingers crossed that I can get into some type of consistent habit.
I hope all is well with you and your family!

I predict that you will keep this theme going for your next music post: I Predict A Riot. You walked into that one, didn’t you 🤣
As for Abe, it’s either a subtle comment about the inability of a certain President to tell the truth, or a reference to the meme which has a picture of Abe next to an alleged quote of his: “don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

I had to look that up – I Predict a Riot, but that would be a perfect follow-up 🙂
as to the picture of Abe, part of it is that the quote at the beginning of the post “the best way to predict the future is to create it” is often attributed to Lincoln. the other part has to do with using the word truthiness, seems like it could apply to Lincoln. But I do like your even deeper connection with a certain president!
and of course, the “don’t believe everything you read on the internet” could be a tagline for my blog 🙂

It was a big hit here and sold more than a million, but not a success there. Great song, by a fun band.
There are a couple of memes that come to mind, maybe you should look for them as I’m sure they would be good post material for you.
That tagline would apply to many blogs!

I just watched the video, does look like a fun song. I had to look up what the word “lairy” meant!
always looking for blog ideas – thanks 🙂

That ‘divided by a common language’ thing again! A good word, in regional use here.
You’re welcome 🤣

I did like the word lairy 🙂
I don’t think I’ve heard used over here.

It’s not that common here either. I think it’s more a northern thing, where the band are from.

The word may make its way into a future blog post of mine!

The one about the lairy, hairy fairy in the dairy, perhaps?

That might be a bit too scary.

Predicting the future seems so much easier when we make a conscious effort to create it. I predict you’ll enjoy your nap and take another one the next day…

perhaps, but…
what happens in Australia may stay in Australia, if only because of my laziness

Wow, on predicting the future. A hidden gift I didn’t know you had. LOL!
Welcome back! I was getting ready to start writing my blog post for today when I saw this pop up and had to read it. I hope you feel important. 😊

Hey, I did the exact same thing! Looks like we both posses this magnificent talent of creating the the future and then telling it. But I ‘d like to hear ore about Australia.

It’s a nice talent to have!
And I’m guessing that there will be a post or two about our time in Australia – which we just loved.

I wondered why my computer was blathering and I finally found the source of my joy. Happy President’s Day weekend. My future has room for a recovering Blogger.

The same to you for a happy weekend and thanks for the kind words.
Did you go the Seahawks parade?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I did not go to the parade. But my oldest son who is a long-time season ticket holder did and he masterminded tickets to the NFC Championship game with the Rams for a group of us and we spent that whole day downtown in a festival atmosphere. Luckily the Seahawks did not lose and ruin the day. Of course, I sat in the last row (QQ) of the third level and thought receivers were wide open when those dots were referees!

That must have been fun to be at the NFC Championship game. And I’m glad your team won. Sounds like a pair of opera glasses would have been useful 🤓
