I Can Predict the Future! (and I’ve Got Proof)

One of my favorite quotes, author unknown, is:

“the best way to predict the future is to create it.”

And now I’m living proof of the truthiness of this quote (how’d you like that, going back to the word of the year for 2005 – truthiness!)

Anyway, so here’s the way it happened. A little over a year ago  (13 January 2025 – notice how worldly I’ve become), I wrote a post:

I See Sporadic Blogging Activity in My Near Future

The reason for the prediction was because I was going to be teaching in Sydney, Australia for a couple of months, and I wasn’t sure how much time I would have to spend on blogging. Well, as it turned out, my prediction was right on target. My next blog post wasn’t until more than a year later; in fact it was just this past Monday (February 9, 2026 – forget that worldly stuff, I’m sticking with the correct way of writing a date).

So there you have it. I predicted the future by creating it. By any measure, most people would consider such a gap between posts as sporadic blogging activity.

I feel that I’m onto something here.

So my next prediction?

I predict that I will take an afternoon nap sometime within the next week.

I look forward to trying to create the future.

  1. I admitted to my wife that I told a lie, then promised I’d try to be more honest in the future, just like Honest Abe Lincoln. She responded by suggesting we go to the theater.

It’s nice to have you back. I don’t know how long you plan to stay, nor can I predict it. But I’ll bet you can.

    1. I’m sure students would find the Palm Reading course much more interesting than Intro to Accounting. and perhaps just as useful.

fingers crossed that I can get into some type of consistent habit.

I hope all is well with you and your family!

  2. I predict that you will keep this theme going for your next music post: I Predict A Riot. You walked into that one, didn’t you 🤣

As for Abe, it’s either a subtle comment about the inability of a certain President to tell the truth, or a reference to the meme which has a picture of Abe next to an alleged quote of his: “don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

    1. I had to look that up – I Predict a Riot, but that would be a perfect follow-up 🙂

as to the picture of Abe, part of it is that the quote at the beginning of the post “the best way to predict the future is to create it” is often attributed to Lincoln. the other part has to do with using the word truthiness, seems like it could apply to Lincoln. But I do like your even deeper connection with a certain president!

and of course, the “don’t believe everything you read on the internet” could be a tagline for my blog 🙂

      1. It was a big hit here and sold more than a million, but not a success there. Great song, by a fun band.

There are a couple of memes that come to mind, maybe you should look for them as I’m sure they would be good post material for you.

That tagline would apply to many blogs!

  3. Wait! I missed your Feb 9th post! How did that happen? Will have to fix that? 😉
Wow, on predicting the future. A hidden gift I didn’t know you had. LOL!
Welcome back! I was getting ready to start writing my blog post for today when I saw this pop up and had to read it. I hope you feel important. 😊

      1. I did not go to the parade. But my oldest son who is a long-time season ticket holder did and he masterminded tickets to the NFC Championship game with the Rams for a group of us and we spent that whole day downtown in a festival atmosphere. Luckily the Seahawks did not lose and ruin the day. Of course, I sat in the last row (QQ) of the third level and thought receivers were wide open when those dots were referees!
