One of my favorite quotes, author unknown, is:
“the best way to predict the future is to create it.”
And now I’m living proof of the truthiness of this quote (how’d you like that, going back to the word of the year for 2005 – truthiness!)
Anyway, so here’s the way it happened. A little over a year ago (13 January 2025 – notice how worldly I’ve become), I wrote a post:
I See Sporadic Blogging Activity in My Near Future
The reason for the prediction was because I was going to be teaching in Sydney, Australia for a couple of months, and I wasn’t sure how much time I would have to spend on blogging. Well, as it turned out, my prediction was right on target. My next blog post wasn’t until more than a year later; in fact it was just this past Monday (February 9, 2026 – forget that worldly stuff, I’m sticking with the correct way of writing a date).
So there you have it. I predicted the future by creating it. By any measure, most people would consider such a gap between posts as sporadic blogging activity.
I feel that I’m onto something here.
So my next prediction?
I predict that I will take an afternoon nap sometime within the next week.
I look forward to trying to create the future.

I admitted to my wife that I told a lie, then promised I’d try to be more honest in the future, just like Honest Abe Lincoln. She responded by suggesting we go to the theater.
It’s nice to have you back. I don’t know how long you plan to stay, nor can I predict it. But I’ll bet you can.
