The photo above is one I took as I was leaving my building today, Friday afternoon.
I’d like to give the benefit of doubt to whoever had been sitting there; maybe they had just stepped away to use the restroom.
After all, someone who reads the Wall Street Journal wouldn’t just leave a mess like that for someone else to clean up, would they?
I didn’t do it.

Alas…we are ALL capable of creating a mess. Perhaps the Wall Street reader was called away to check on their stock holdings.

that is certainly in the realm of possibilities… 🙂

Unless they used the WSJ as a napkin.

I hope not – that would be completely disrespectful of the WSJ 🙂

I want to see an outline of the mess on the table and floor like they do with bodies. That would even attract more attention.

the cleaning crew should do something like that – could be a good reminder to clean up after yourself…

Oh, yes they would!

unfortunately, I think you are correct…

I am with you, Jim. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they walked back to their office to check their WP stats. Can’t blame someone for that!

if that’s the case, then they get a pass 🙂

Maybe they were late for one of your classes?

if they were running late, they would likely use that as an excuse to just skip the whole class…

Are the classes such that they wouldn’t make an effort? 😉

whatever your sudden need to leave and head somewhere, you can take it with you and drop it on the way. don’t get why people do this.

it surprised me as well; I can’t people would just leave a mess like that and assume someone else will clean it up…

They most definitely would, unfortunately.

yes, I think you are right. as the photo clearly shows… I was quite disappointed when I saw the mess…

Really hope they’re coming back because that’s not cool to just leave a mess like that.

I agree, it’s not cool at all. and I’m guessing whoever left the mess is long gone…

Hmmmm … maybe they had to leave suddenly to take the pooch outside after having fed him several bites under the table? 🤷

one of our teachers often brings her dog to school with her; the students love it…

🤣🤣 And … let me guess … the students love it, but Professor Borden not so much?

I’ll have to admit, it is kind of fun to see a dog roaming the halls of the business school. and the dog seems well-behaved 🙂

Disappointing. They must live in a messy home.

Hi Jim, I think people who read the Wall Street Journal are very likely to expect others to clean up after them. I see this sort of thing all the time. Admittedly, South African restaurants and other eateries are not strict about self service and self clean up like the UK facilities are.

you may be on to something there with the WSJ. and it’s funny how different two cultures can be…

Well, I was outside enjoying the last of summer’s rays. Perhaps this person stepped outside for a refreshing breath of air.

that is certainly possible, but I fear it is not the case…

They left quickly when they got the call. They hadn’t read the WSJ and left the unfinished drink and take-out box. Fortunately the boy was alright after giving them quite a scare. But the person who took the ten spot left to cover the mess had no shame.

Having grown up in a developing country, I have to say that that’s a common sight for me. We used to go to fast food chains and leave tables like that, just like how we would in a restaurant. Times are changing though, which is always a good thing to see.

I can see if such behavior is the norm, but leaving your trash on a table is notthe norm here. well, at least for the most part… 🙂

I think your benefit of the doubt is a bit too generous thinking. It’s usually the entitled who think that someone else will clean their sh*t.

hmmm I feel like I am missing some context here… you live in the building of this restaurant? Was it a restaurant or a cafeteria? Also, I’ve done this before lol I’ve forgotten my left-overs at a restaurant… sucks LOL

there is a cafeteria on the ground floor of the building I teach in…
