My wife and I had the chance to watch a wonderful movie this past weekend, The Peanut Butter Falcon. I highly recommend it.
Here’s the movie summary from Rotten Tomatoes, where it scored a 95% on the Tomatometer and 96% on the Audience Score:
A modern Mark Twain style adventure story, THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON tells the story of Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from a residential nursing home to follow his dream of attending the professional wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). A strange turn of events pairs him on the road with Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), a small-time outlaw on the run, who becomes Zak’s unlikely coach and ally. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whiskey, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a kind nursing home employee charged with Zak’s return, to join them on their journey.
Here’s the official trailer:
It’s an uplifting movie, made even better by a great soundtrack.
The song that really caught my attention was a song right at the end, Running for So Long, sung by Parker Ainsworth and Jessie Payo. The video includes scenes from the movie:
As I was listening to that song, it hit me how good the music had been throughout the whole movie, so I immediately went out to Google to check out the soundtrack. The soundtrack includes a bit of country, gospel, and bluegrass music that blends in perfectly with the story.
Here are some of my other favorite selections from the movie:
Whippoorwill by Chance McCoy:
Uncloudy Day – The Staple Singers
“The Stable Song” – Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony
Sara Watkins playing A Long Hot Summer Day:
And here are a couple of bluegrass instrumental songs composed by Jonathan Sadoff, Zachary Dawes, Noam Pikelny, and Gabe Witcher.
Cold Open:
Love Me in Kind:
And if you’d like to listen to the complete soundtrack, here is the playlist:
Enjoy!
Looks great! Think I’m going to suggest it to my wife on Black Friday. (I’d rather be in a theater than out shopping any day.)

I’m not sure if it is still in the theater; we watched it on Amazon. And I agree; I’d rather be watching a movie than out shopping!
