Major Milestone Achieved for jborden.com

I was a little hesitant to write this blog, fearing that I would be inundated with advertisers looking for a high-volume blog where they could place their ads.

But then I realized I have a strict no advertising policy on my site, so there was no need to worry.

At some point today, probably around 6:00 or 7:00 am EST, someone clicked on one of my blog posts, and my site reached 100,000 views. I wish I could identify who the person was so that I could offer them some reward, like a Borden’s Blog t-shirt or a link to my private collection of accounting videos on YouTube. But alas, I have no way of knowing who it was, leaving open the possibility that it was YOU!

I also wish I could figure out which particular blog post was number 100,000. Odds are it was my most recent one, How I Did with My Crystal Ball, but it could also have been one of my more highly read posts. Here is a list of the 11 most viewed blog posts (I had to get the Springsteen post in there):

A New York Times vs. Wall Street Journal Editorial Smackdown 2,388
Boxes of Bullshit and Digging a Hole – Cards Against Humanity and Black Friday 1,677
Google Search and the Tragedy of the Commons 1,590
Commercial of the Week: ‘Parents’ by Coca-Cola Life 1,463
Almost Famous: Tim Moore, Singer-Songwriter Extraordinaire 1,305
Gray Matter: How We Perform as Individuals Will Determine How We Perform as a Nation 1,299
Each of Us Is More Than the Worst Thing We’ve Ever Done 1,241
How a Scottish Shower Is Helping Me Become a Man 1,092
My First Mosh Pit 1,032
A One-Minute Test to See If Your Attention Span Is Longer Than a Goldfish’s 975
Springsteen Concert Canceled for Lack of Interest! 969

And here are some more stats in terms of the average views per day for each of the three past years, and so far for 2018.

Year Average Views per Day
2015 51
2016 63
2017 89
2018 127

If the blog just maintains a steady state from this point forward, it looks like it will take me a little less than 20 more years to reach one million views.

Now I realize some people get a million views just for one simple tweet or Instagram photo, but I like taking the Seth Godin approach of drip, drip, drip. But it would be nice if some day it turned into a steady stream.

Finally, a big thank you to all of you who have taken the time to read my posts. I couldn’t have achieved this milestone without you!
