Remembering a Moment in Time

It was just one of those lazy college days, either the spring of 1978 or 1979, and my roommate and I had nothing to do (swim season was over) so we decided to visit some of our friends who were living off campus.

Even though it was the middle of the afternoon, and the middle of the week, we brought a case of beer with us (being the perfect guests).

We started having a few beers, someone passed around a joint, and then Hooker (never really learned why that was his nickname), suggested putting on some music.

The album he put on his turntable was “Bustin’ Out” by Pure Prairie League, which contained the hit song “Amie”.

While I had heard the song before, there was just something about listening to it at that moment in time that made it seem magical.

I’m sure it was the result of the somewhat altered state of consciousness that I was in, but hearing those guitars and harmonies seemed to bring on a sense of peace and joy that I still remember today, almost 40 years later.

I’m not sure if anyone else in the room felt the same way, and I certainly wasn’t going to mention such emotions in a room full of guys, but I didn’t want the moment to end.

While I had lots of great times in college, that day was one of the few that I recall so clearly, and so fondly.

So today, every time I hear “Amie” (it’s on my YouTube playlist), it brings back those great memories.

And I don’t even need drugs, legal or otherwise, to rekindle those feelings.
