My 100th Blog Post!

This blog started on January 1 in response to a 31-day writing challenge from Matt and Christina Frazier. When I successfully completed the challenge of writing for 31 straight days, I decided to keep going and set my goal as 100 straight days of blogging.

Today’s blog represents the completion of the 100-day challenge. In some respects, it has gotten a little easier to write my daily blog, but in other ways it has gotten more difficult.

Since I know that I will to be posting new content each day, I think I have become more observant of what is going on around me and what I read, hoping that something will provide material for my blog. I have also tried to make it easier on myself by having a couple recurring topics; one night a week is set aside for sharing my favorite commercials, and another night of the week is set aside t o share a series of ads from United Technologies that appeared in the Wall Street Journal in the late 70s and early 80s.

At the same time, it was occasionally hard to come up with a topic, since in hindsight I probably used a lot of “low-hanging fruit” ideas as the basis for my blogs during the first 31 days. In addition, it has been an unusually busy time since the 31-day challenge ended, but that’s the nature of life. Being able to “ship” everyday during such a busy time made it all the more rewarding.

At this point, my plan is to make blogging one of my ADLs, activities of daily living. I find that it is a good way to clarify my thoughts on a variety of topics, and I enjoy the discipline associated with doing something every day.

To put the 100 days of blogging into perspective, it’s helpful to look back at some of the more significant events that have taken place during that time.

• Tom Brady won another Super Bowl
• Duke won another NCAA men’s basketball championship
• in the category of “vegan Accounting Professor from Philadelphia who writes a daily blog filled with nonsense”, Anna Kendrick rated Jim Borden as her favorite (apparently no one else even came close)
• the Philadelphia 76ers won a game
• Amazon almost turned a profit
• Bill Gates stood in line for 20 hours to buy the first Apple Watch
• Bruce Springsteen, in his annual list of must read blogs, tweeted that ‘Borden’s Blog’ was right at the top of the list
• one of my students told me that something I said the previous semester actually came in handy
• Ellen Degeneres highlighted my series of April Fools’ Day pranks on her April 1 show
•  my wife found it much easier to fall asleep each night while after reading my blog

I can’t imagine what events will take place while I’m busy accumulating thousands of blog posts, like Seth Godin and Fred Wilson. Suffice it to say, my good friends Anna, Bill, Bruce, and Ellen will continue to support my endeavor, and I will ask my legion of followers to do the same for them.
