Sports, Technology, and Passion

I love it when I find someone who has found his or her passion, and is willing to share that passion with the world.

Today I want to share such an example with you, DC Rainmaker. DC is passionate about triathlons, technology, and travel, and he has managed to create an unbelievably informative and entertaining web site that blends all of these together.

I first came across DC’s web site a couple of years ago when I was looking to buy a sports watch, and I wanted to read some reviews of various products. Finding his site was a mixed blessing.

The product reviews are unmatched in how thorough they are, covering every imaginable detail, with lots of photos to boot. I actually made my purchase of a sports watch based on his reviews. That’s what is great about his site.

The downside? Once I came across it, I couldn’t stop reading it. A big reason for this is because DC writes a lot about two of my favorite topics, sports and technology. But another reason was simply my fascination with finding someone who was so passionate about what he did that he was willing to spend an incredible amount of time focused on that passion and then share that passion with other like-minded people, for little or no compensation.

If you want to see some idea of his web site, here are a few useful links (with brief excerpts describing each section):

About MeThanks for stopping by (or re-stopping by)!  Here’s a short little background on who I am, and what this blog’s all about.  I’m just a triathlete and runner like you:  I run, I bike, and I do something resembling swimming.  And at the end of the day…I blog about it. But other than that last detail – I’m just like you (unless you blog too, in which case we’re the same).

In Depth Product ReviewsYou probably stumbled upon here looking for a review of a sports gadget.  If you’re trying to decide which unit to buy – check out my in-depth reviews section.  Some reviews are over 60 pages long when printed out, with hundreds of photos!  I aim to leave no stone unturned.

Gadget Recommendation GuideHere’s my most recent gadget recommendations guide (Winter 2014-2015 edition) – covering almost every category of sports gadgets out there.  Looking for the equipment I use day to day?  I also just put together my complete 2013 ‘Gear I Use’ equipment list, from swim to bike to run and everything in between (plus a few extra things).  And to compliment that, here’s The Girl’s (my wife’s) list. Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!

How-to GuidesI enjoy explaining new things to folks – especially showing people how to get the most from their gadgets.

Top 25 Most Useful PostsIt turns our I’ve written a fair bit of stuff over the past few years – and after it disappears from my front page, a lot of it never really sees the light of day again without Google’ing skillz.  Or a photographic memory…which I don’t have.  I’ve taken a look back and found stuff that…continues to find a trickle of readers via web searches or forum links.

Travel SectionI travel a fair bit, both for work and for fun. Here’s a bunch of random trip reports and daily trip-logs that I’ve put together and posted. I’ve sorted it all by world geography, in an attempt to make it easy to figure out where I’ve been.

You can also find DC on Facebook and Twitter.

I would imagine that DC is the type of person Seth Godin would admire; someone who has found a niche, created a tribe around that niche, and then provides unmatched service to that tribe.

So I strongly encourage you to take a look at his site to see what someone can accomplish when they are doing something they absolutely love. If you’re not a sports and technology/gadget kind of person, perhaps you might find his Paris blog informative and entertaining.

All I can say is, once you click on his site, there’s no going back. You have been warned.

P.S. I think in my next life I want to be DC…
