Back Home in Philadelphia

As our plane got closer and closer to Philly, I started thinking about how much I love the city. It doesn't have the 24/7 buzz of New York City or the bright lights of Los Angeles, but it's a gritty town with more history than any other U.S. city. I also can't imagine I'll ever … Continue reading Back Home in Philadelphia

Checking Out of Hotel California

What a great week it has been, and the sunset above was the perfect way to end it. I arrived in San Diego last Saturday with my son Pat and my Aunt Eileen and we headed to my Aunt Mary's house north of San Diego. As I mentioned in a previous post, it has been … Continue reading Checking Out of Hotel California

California – A State of Confusion

There are 17 ballot measures that Californians will vote on this year. That's right, s-e-v-e-n-t-e-e-n. Some of these measures deal with critical issues such as repealing the death penalty, background checks for ammunition purchases, and funding for schools. Fifteen measures were put on the November ballot by citizens through signature petitions, and two by the legislature. It's … Continue reading California – A State of Confusion

From the Hills to the Beach, Beverly to Venice That Is

Talk about going from one extreme to the other. Our morning started at the Bourgeois Pig, an eclectic coffee shop known as the writers' hangout in Hollywood - a place where screenwriters, bloggers and journalists alike all sit for hours on their laptops. I could feel my creative juices flowing just being there. From there we … Continue reading From the Hills to the Beach, Beverly to Venice That Is

Those Hollywood Hills

Another great day in sunny California. My son and I headed up to L.A to visit Dennis, one of my college roommates. When I typed his address into Google Maps to get a sense of where he was located, it seemed like he was in a pretty good spot. However, it wasn't until we arrived, and … Continue reading Those Hollywood Hills

From Lawrence Welk to WWE

It was a day of contrasts, to say the least. Our day started off with a visit to the Welk Resort in San Diego. The setting was beautiful, as shown in the picture above. We didn't get to see much of the resort since we were not staying there, but we did get to walk … Continue reading From Lawrence Welk to WWE

California Dreamin’

One of my California cousins, who I have not seen for 49 years, took us on a great driving tour of some beautiful beach towns in Southern California. Starting in Oceanside, we drove south through Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Torrey Pines, and ended in La Jolla. We stopped off in La Jolla Shores … Continue reading California Dreamin’

Seems It Never Rains in Southern California, Literally

I’m out In California for the week with my son and my Aunt, visiting another Aunt. It’s the first time the two sisters have seen each other in 10 years, so it was nice witnessing the reunion. The posts will probably be a little brief this week, hopefully all with a California twist to them. … Continue reading Seems It Never Rains in Southern California, Literally

This Is What Effective Leadership Looks Like

Imagine sitting in a room, and the instructor asks you the following questions: Who were the explorers pushing west in early America? What is the fourth holy city of Islam? Where is one in danger of being attacked by wombats? A few years ago the same instructor handed out DVDs of the first 2012 Presidential … Continue reading This Is What Effective Leadership Looks Like

What Kind of World Do We Live In,

where companies that make medical devices that save lives have to worry about those devices being hacked? Johnson & Johnson has issued a warning to diabetes patients and doctors that one of its insulin pumps is vulnerable to cyber hacking. Apparently, a hacker in close proximity to the OneTouch Ping insulin pump system could use … Continue reading What Kind of World Do We Live In,
