Best Week Ever!?

The news started popping up on some of my favorite blogs:

And what was the cause of all their excitement?

It was International Scone Week!

Each of the bloggers shared a recipe or two (or three) of their favorite scones:

Scones are one of my favorite treats; I remember my mom used to make traditional Irish soda bread/scones with raisins and caraway seeds. (I’m not really what the difference is between Irish soda bread and scones, but it doesn’t matter to me – it’s delicious either way.)

So you can imagine my excitement when I learned there was a whole week devoted to scones.

Now I am not the baking type, but I do know a place that sells great vegan scones – a Farmers’ Market not too far from us.

So I picked up one earlier this week, and it lived up to my lofty expectations. The scone and a cup of Dunkin’ coffee, and I was in heaven.

When I mentioned to another blogging friend, Carolyn, that it was International Scone Week, she said she would give up her scone so I could have a second one, and that is what I did today.

And while I was trying to learn more about International Scone Week (I only found lots of recipes), I did learn that there is also an International Scone Day – May 30.

But there’s no need for the Farmers’ Market to worry – I am sure I will be back often between now and then…

And all of this is just further evidence of why I love the WordPress blogging community 🙂

  1. My advice is that you thoroughly research all of the scone options between now and May 30th. How horrible would it be to get to that date and not be able to make an informed decision concerning your scone choice?

  2. I don’t cook that much, but I do like to bake. My friends like to tease me about that, but I’m at the age where I don’t care. Maybe that should be your angle in your next accounting class—scones on Borden for all students paying attention today.

  3. Tri-berry scones for me! But not the version with bits of berries throughout, I prefer the ones with a mass of berries in the center! They’re hard to find and about $6 each but sooo worth it when I have a craving!!

  4. I would assume that vegan scones are as close to soda bread as you can get, as the only difference is that scones normally contain eggs and milk, two perishable and pricey commodities for less than wealthy homes. Soda bread was considered peasant cuisine. I am thinking now that the more prestigious scone may be deserving of a cup of coffee from Wawa rather than Dunkin’.

  5. I’ve had a few scones over the years but had no idea they could be so fancy and varied with all kinds of ingredients. It adds to the enjoyment when food reminds us of all the good things associated with mom’s home cooking. That kind of food is good for the soul. Hey, must be soul food! 😋😊

  6. What?! Scone week? I had no idea. I need one now and I have an excuse. My wife can’t deny me. I’m going for the sultana and cherry with strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream.

  7. I love scones although I just have the basic ones- the recipes sound interesting though! I’ll have to find a way to make some vegan ones since right now I just buy them at the store.
