Ever since I broke my wrists last November, I don’t think I’ve worn a pair of jeans. I got in the habit of wearing a pair of warm-ups because they were much easier to get on.

So for the past several months, I’ve either worn a pair of khakis for work, or a pair of warm-ups for home.

And then a few days ago I took a look at myself with my warm-ups on and I thought enough is enough.

As fate would have it, we were planning a trip to Costco later that day. I wasn’t sure if Costco sold jeans, but when we arrived I was pleased to discover that they sold their own pair of jeans (Kirkland) for only $14.

They seemed to check all the right boxes:

  • they looked like a pair of jeans.
  • they had a zipper (who would want to wear jeans that replace zippers with a set of buttons?).
  • they had my size; I didn’t even bother to try them on; they went right in my basket.
  • and they were within my price range

So as a result, they went right in my basket.

As I turned the corner to go down the next aisle, I was shocked to see that there was a large supply of IZOD jeans for sale, and they were only $12! I found my size, so no need to try them on. It didn’t take me long to put the Kirkland jeans back on the shelves and put the IZOD jeans in my basket.

I mean, we are talking about saving $2 AND only paying $12 for a brand new pair of jeans.

Fortunately, when I got home, I tried them on, and they fit fine.

So now I’ve got a pair of jeans that will get me through the next 15-20 years. And again, for only $12.

Life does not get much better than this…

      1. That’s why I used to like wearing men’s jeans. Really easy. Waist by height, close enough? Perfect! Women’s jeans are not so easy. You find you me size and it’s most certainly your size, and one pair fits like they’re about to fall off and look horrible. The other pair are too small in all the wrong places and you can’t breathe and they’re capris which is not what you wanted. Amazon wardrobe is the best thing that ever happened. I picked about 10 pairs of jeans since those are always the hardest. 2 from each company. Based on the comments about how they fit I picked my size and either a size up or a size down as the second. I got them. Out of them all, only 2 fir (completely different sizes one was one up from my size and one was one down from my size. I sent the test back as is the point to Amazon wardrobe. I did not realize they had such a great big-brother aspect! I wanted a third pair of jeans and when I searched it only showed jeans that had the size that was closest to what I kept. Even if it wasn’t my actual size. Not believing in the algorithm, but willing to try it, I got one pair of jeans at the “suggested size” without changing a thing. They fit! First go! And it extends to leggings and everything else. You can use it for any type of clothing. It’s quite amazing. No more spending hours trying to find a pair of jeans that will fit “good enough” but with a few clicks, you’re there and the options displayed are what they have that would fit you based on the sizes available and other comments that say fit was wrong and why. Brilliant addition!

  5. That is the difference between men’s and ladies jeans. Men’s sizing is exact. No two pairs of ladies jeans ever fit the same. There are too many options and they are always changing. I hate dressing rooms yet I have to take ten pairs of pants in and rarely do I find a good fit. Lucky you. I’ve always wanted to be able to shop like a man.

  10. I’m impressed that you can make a pair of jeans last that long. I wear jeans every day, so I’m happy just getting a couple of years out of mine. When they get too cruddy, they become my painting or work jeans.

  11. I am with Pete. I wear mine every day and am lucky to get a couple years out of a pair. That is why the last time I went shopping for jeans and found the right fit at the right price, I bought three pair. I applaud you for your ability to find a bargain and hope they serve you well!

      And I like your approach to shopping, and I’ve done that a couple of times myself with shoes and clothing..

  12. You sure know how to live, don’t you! Costco, saving $2, and only having to spend $12. Time for a celebration – maybe one of those strange foodstuffs that seem to exist in your area…

    2. It reminds me of when Dad would pull into some small town when we were traveling. He’d drive down the road if gas were 2 cents a gallon cheaper. Even as a little kid, I wondered about the economics of searching for cheaper gas when you had to drive to find it.

  16. As an ex-denimhead, I have to say that I only shopped for the best. I wanted my jeans to last. But then I learned that denim, in general, is going to last regardless. So like you, I’ve begun saving on my bottoms too, and they do last as long as you say, especially in the era of working from home. Anyway, thanks for sharing, Jim!

  17. Oh man, there was a good 6 months during pandemic that I never touched a pair of jeans lol… I didn’t miss them!!

    Also, I used to work at Levi’s and surprisingly there were people who specifically wanted only the 501s (the regular fit with buttons)… 🤷‍♀️Never understood it!
