Villasnowva!

OK. I can’t take credit for the title. It was the headline of a story in the student newspaper about our recent snowstorm.

I’ve been at Nova for almost 35 years, and this is the first time I’ve heard that term. And I just had to use it.

As I noted in a previous post, we had a snow day on Monday, and then another one on Tuesday.

Because of all of the snow, yesterday afternoon was the first we ventured outside our house, and as we drove past the campus, it was wonderful to see so many students out playing in the snow.

There were snowmen all over the place; “kids” were sledding; a group of students built an igloo; there was a snowball fight going on. Academics took a back seat on Monday and Tuesday, as they should have.

In other words, it was a winter wonderland.  I’m sure for a few students, it may have been their first chance to ever play in snow.

It has been a stressful year for students because of all of the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, but as the student newspaper wrote: “It (Monday) was the most uniformly cheerful day of the year so far for the University.”

There is something magical about snow days, and I am thrilled that the students were able to experience such magic.

  7. Sometimes we forget the pressure and strain that seeking a higher education can have on students. I am sure this was a welcomed relief and an opportunity to just have some plain old fun within the student body. This piece made me smile because we always remain kids at heart. Great post Jim!
