Four weeks ago, I broke both my wrists.
A week later, I had surgery on both of them.
Last week, I started physical therapy.
And today, for the first time in four weeks, I was able to get completely dressed all by myself.
My wife, a pre-k teacher, quickly put an end to my bragging and strutting by saying her four-year-olds can also get dressed all by themselves.
Not to be outdone by a four-year old, the only response I could come up with was, “Yea, but can they shave by themselves?”
Mic drop…
Reading between the lines here…your wife just had enough. Your response. Priceless.

Glad you’re healing up well. But you should have kept quiet, because now you have no excuse to grow a beard.

That was my first thought four weeks ago, that I would be growing a beard. But then after a couple days I couldnβt stand it.

I’ve worn a beard most of my life. But it seems most men find a beard to be too itchy, and begin shaving from about age 4.

I guess I was a late bloomer, I didnβt start shaving to I was about six.

One step closer. By next week you’ll be blogging about feeding yourself.π Kudos for not letting this get in the way of your blogging streak. That is truly impressive. I’m picturing the anesthesiologist asking you if you have any questions before surgery. “Yes, can I take one last look at my WordPress stats before you put me under?”π€£

Can four-year-olds feed them selves? π
I did ask the OR nurse if they could display my stats instead of my heart rate on the big monitor but they nixed that idea π

I am glad to hear that your recovery continues. Listen to your physical therapist and do all the hard work they ask of you. They are an under appreciated group of professionals. It is exciting that you can now dress yourself. Soon the wife may even let you pick out your own outfits. I loved your witty response to the wife, but I am a bit surprised as if I had your talents my natural response to any comparison would be, “Yeah, but can they juggle?” Take care, my friend!

Thanks, Brad. I am a fan of physical therapist as well, and had briefly consider going back to school to become one myself a few years ago. And I donβt see the picking out my own clothes ever happening π
And hopefully Iβll be juggling again soon!

I totally get both you and your wife’s comments to each other. glad you are on your road to recovery. now, onto your snowpants, let’s see how that goes smarty-pants!

I think Iβll wait until next year regarding the snow pants! My wife has always said that getting the kids ready to go outside during the winter is probably the toughest part of her job.

I always crack up. At one point we have team relay races to help each other get ready!

that seems like a good way to deal with the snow pants problem!

No Santa beard for you this year, then? Just lay off the keep fit stuff for now – itβs dangerous!

I tried the beer thing for a couple days it was just too itchy. I have been doing a lot of pacing around the house as my form of exercise these days, seems pretty safeβ¦

Beer sounds good, but I guess that was a typo! Iβve grown a beard a few times: the itchy feeling soon goes. Pacing around sounds good, but mind the stairs…

Yes that was a typo. Iβm still using voice dictation for most of my typing and I usually catch such mistakes. I guess this was a Freudian slip. π

I thought so too. Beware, though, too much of the stuff could cause a relapse…

I do love your wife’s response, but yes, you had a good comeback. Now drive to Starbucks and get her a Santa Clause Frappe or a Salted Caramel one. π
Glad you are recovering, keep it up!

I do feel for you. I couldn’t drive for 2 weeis after my surgery and it does feel strange when you are so used to just hopping in the car and going wherever you need to. I do think my kids kind of enjoyed being my chaueffer.

Awesome comeback, both in your comment and your ability to be as talented as a pre-K student. I won’t speak too loudly myself as I have a pre-K grandson just waiting to show me up.

I had to look up what joined-up writing was; seems to be about the same as cursive. Talk about a dying art. some of the schools here no longer teach it…
