A Limerick About Blogging (and Stats)

This is my first attempt at writing a limerick, at least one that isn’t crude.

I’ll thank the wonderful poet, Brad, for encouraging me to try some poetry on occasion; I think three-line haikus and five-line limericks are about as far as I’ll wander into the world of poetry. I don’t want to defile such a beautiful art form any more than I have to…

So here we go:

There was an old man in love with his stats
And when they were low he’d scream and yell “rats!”
But after a long time
He’d earned not a dime
So now he regrets those darn WordPress tats

That took a lot longer than I thought it would.

And if you’re thinking, “and that’s the best you could come up with?”, trust me, I feel the same way…

*please ignore my total lack of photo-editing skills! Those are supposed to be tattoos on the guy’s back…

    1. thanks, Lisa! I don’t have any tats either, but I’ll go out on a limb here and say that once I get a million WordPress followers, I’ll commit to gettin a WordPress tat ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Okay, for starters, I will assume you stole that photo of me from my Facebook page. Your limerick was spot on, Jim! Perfect to form with just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor. I don’t know that we will ever fully tap into the poet within you, but the fact that you have written more poetry since we met than before we met, does give me a sense of pride and accomplishment. Pete is right. This makes me a happy camper! I feel like the least I can do in return is, oh I don’t know, balance my check book? And, thank you, as always, for mentioning me in your post. Unnecessary, but always appreciated! Stay safe and stay well!

    1. I had a hunch that was you, after all, the search terms I used were: “muscles, poet, wordpress tattoos” ๐Ÿ™‚

And I will admit it was fun writing a poem, especially something as relatively simple as a limerick. I do plan on trying a tautogram at some point.

In lieu of balancing your checkbook, there is that GoFund me I started for a new iPad…

      Have a great day!

  2. There once was a โ€˜leaderโ€™ called Trump,
Whose stats he wanted to bump,
    So he carried on lying,
    Left the whole country crying,
As it went on its way to the dump.

      1. Of course not, thatโ€™s for much lesser beings! Mind you, you could always post a picture of a nearly empty gathering and say that they are your millions of supporters. The best supporters. Many people are saying that. Bigly ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. That was a nice limerick. But you need to know that it takes time and a lot of poems to make a really good rhyme. So keep up the good work, and don’t be too hard on yourself!
