I Don’t Know How I’ll Be Able to Find Time for Work When This Crisis Is Over I

I’ve written a post previously about my lack of productivity while I’ve been staying at home as a result of the impact covid-19 has had on the world.

But then I started thinking about what it will be like when it is time to go back to work, and I just don’t know how I’m going to squeeze it in.

After all, I’ve got to watch the rest of the newest season of Ozark, as well as Curb Your Enthusiasm. Plus I’ve got to go through a lot of back episodes of Schitt’s Creek. And I’ve heard this new series, Tiger King is an interesting show. I’ve also got six more episodes to watch of Ken Burns’s documentary on Country Music.

On top of all that, we’ve tried to watch a movie each night. For those who might be interested (i.e., me), here is that list, with the occasional comment:

  • Airplane – our youngest son had never seen it. of course, he loved it; how can you not?
  • Go Karts – another in a long line of movies featuring an underdog and first love
  • Olympus Has Fallen – a good thriller with a high body count
  • Sing Street – found this one by using Amazon’s “Customers who watched this also watched this” feature by typing in the movie “Begin Again”. one of my all-time favorites. Sing Street is set in Dublin, which only adds to this wonderful story.
  • The Fundamentals of Caring – with Paul Rudd. A touching road story, with lots of humor.
  • Gracie’s Choice – based on a true story, starring a young Kristen Bell (the movie was made back in 2004). as an impressive young woman.

So between all this, and my blogging, and my constant snacking, how does a job fit in?

I guess I’ll worry about that when the time comes, maybe I’ll just have to do some binge-watching.

The things I do for my job…

  1. My retired brother and I say the same thing, except we’re serious. Once you get involved with quite a few things in retirement you say, “How did I find time to work?” I’m pretty sure you’ll be doing more than just watching movies and blogging. Don’t expect the rest of us to to keep track of your blog stats.😎

    1. Once I retire, I’ll really be able to dive into my blog stats. You’ve been warned 🙂

Hopefully I will find things to do when I retire – I’ve already thought of a couple of things.

I also hope that you and your family are staying healthy!

      1. We’re doing fine in our physical health, but are going through a tough few days as we had to put our dog, Jake, down on Friday—a lot sooner than we thought. We only discovered he had cancer a month ago, and the vet estimated that he might live another 6-9 months. I know these things are hard to predict, and I certainly don’t hold any animosity toward the vet. He stopped eating and the cancerous lump was growing rapidly. Our son got to say his goodbyes via FaceTime. Being isolated makes it harder, but I know we’ll manage. Best wishes to you and your family.

      2. I’m so sorry to hear this, Pete. I remember when you wrote about Jake having cancer just a short time ago. That must have been tough for your son to be away during this, but at least he got to say goodbye. As I wrote before, Jake sounded like the perfect dog…

  2. Are you currently not involved in online courses? I didn’t realize this was all isle time for you. You could kill sometime each day writing haikus, just saying…😁

    1. The only teaching I had this semester was over in Singapore. Once that course finished in early March, I was finished teaching for the semester. So did not have to get involved at all with teaching online.

      No teaching for me
      I finished in early March
      No online headaches

  4. OH Jim, you are so funny. I am busier than ever with working from home, home schooling my boys, cleaning, baking, writing and we decided to start a YouTube channel.

  5. I’ve been back at work 4 business days … I’m more disciplined here. Eating clean. Online meetings. Routine and Structure. Significantly bored. Significantly appreciative of the paycheck. I’m constantly dodging a stray: non-practitioner of social distancing. Millennials are the biggest violators … 6’ is 9” … Enjoy Sing Street. Quite a lovely sleeper film I’ve enjoyed watching a couple times. You may sing and dance your way through it.

    1. I think I would be slightly more productive if I had to go somewhere for work, instead of being at home. And yes, I’ve noticed people being completely unaware of social distancing. Sing Street was great; nice to know you enjoyed it as well.

  6. Whoa … you’re watching some heavy stuff there … lighten it up a bit, Jim! And as for finding time to go back to work … well, you’ve got to get your priorities straight … there may not, in truth, be enough hours in the day to squeeze in work … you may have to choose between sleep and a paycheck. Sigh. Life is hard. 😊
