I wrote a post a couple of days ago about how I received a Rubik’s Cube for Christmas, and how I quickly realized I had completely lost any memory I had of how to solve it.
So I decided to spend the next few days trying to memorize the steps once more.
So, on the one hand, I am happy to report that I have for the most part successfully re-learned how to solve the Cube.
On the other hand, I’m embarrassed to admit that I became kind of obsessed with trying to do so. The result was that I abandoned everything else. Family, friends, reading, eating, bathing. If it didn’t involve the cube, I had no time for it. (I did exercise and write my blog every day, and I’m just kidding about eating and bathing… really).
How this relates to WordPress is that the cube obsession caused me to fall a few days behind on reading and commenting on my favorite blogs. I finally got a chance to do some catching up today, and I should be up to speed by tomorrow.
Some day I’ll get this blogging thing down, but in the meantime, thank you to those who did not abandon me during my little hiatus from reading your blogs.

Okay, so this and your previous post have me wondering. Do you still know how to juggle? Or is it even more a muscle memory skill that would need to be practiced again?

Fortunately, I think the juggling is etched into my muscle memory. In fact, when I retire, that is hopefully something I can spend some time working on to improve.

Haha. I’ve gotten into working a Rubik’s cube before and abandoned everything else. It’s pretty cool to lose yourself in something like that. I’m glad you got it figured out. I never did. Ha. Great post!

I was like that in the early days of computer games (they came on a little cassette, like music cassettes). After several versions of Dizzy and a Popeye, I decided I would have to give them up or my kids wouldn’t get fed. I’ve never played a computer game since (nor missed them).

Maybe, maybe you’re onto something like what Kafka wrote: “Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.” Though I doubt the Rubik Cube counts as your most intense obsession 😉

I could never do The Rubik’s Cube. It was way too square and puzzling for me. I couldn’t get my mind around it. But they will always be associated with the 1980s! Well done for mastering it! 🙂
