Twelve Traits I Look for in a President

These twelve traits are in no particular order, although I would probably say the first one is the most important one for me:

  • kindness
  • wisdom
  • humility
  • collaborative
  • fairness
  • compassion
  • honesty
  • sense of humor
  • enthusiasm
  • creative
  • peaceful
  • sense of gratitude

To me, character matters, a lot, in our leaders.

I think it would be impossible to find a President who has all the same views on the issues that I have, but if the President had these twelve traits, I would certainly respect and support his leadership.

I do think there is one person who would have met all of my requirements, but he passed away in 2003.

Fred Rogers.

We could use a man like Mr. Rogers today.

By the way, here’s the official trailer for the new movie about Mr. Rogers, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring Tom Hanks. The movie will be released on November 22.

I want the U.S. to be a beautiful neighborhood.

  1. Uh oh! 0 for 12. I’m probably old-fashioned, but I would still like to think character matters. No, this is not my biased political view because I think Ronald Reagan (R) and Barack Obama (D) were both men of character.

  2. Excellent post Jim. I agree with all of those traits on the list. I tried like hell to see if any of them describe the current occupant of White House. The only one I could come up with, possibly, is enthusiasm. And even then, it’s related to how enthusiastic he seems on dividing the country and wrecking our democracy. So, in other words, he gets an ‘F’ on your traits test.
