Music Monday: The Peaceful, Uplifting Sounds of Church Music

After 12 years of Catholic school and thousands of Sundays spent in church, I’ve heard a lot of “church” music. Over those years, there are a few songs that have become my favorites, and this past weekend, while at a wedding, I decided that “Gentle Woman” is probably my favorite.

Here are some of the others. (No Christmas songs included).

Amazing Grace, performed by Celtic Woman:

Morning Has Broken. While made famous by Cat Stevens, this song was actually a Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, “Bunessan”.
