It would be hard to find a better song to play on the first day of Fall than Fall in Philadelphia by Philly’s own superstars, Hall & Oates.
The song was on the album Whole Oats, the debut studio album by the American pop music duo. The album was released on November 12, 1972, by Atlantic Records.
Unfortunately, I could not find a live video of the song (one that included the actual video footage of the duo performing the song), but I did come across this beautiful version that someone put together that highlights scenes of Fall from around the Philadelphia area, set to this wonderful song.
Happy Fall!
There’s a thunder storm ‘a brewin’
And the day is turning gray
There ain’t much to say about the weather
Say, the shower stall is leakin’
And the ceiling’s fallin’ in
And I’m getting twenty bills to every letter
I’ve got to move myself out to the country
I’m lookin’ out for any place at all
I’m gonna spend another fall in Philadelphia
I’m gonna spend another fall in Philadelphia
Say, a roving band of youths beat up on Johnny
Everybody’s gettin’ richer sellin’ that dope
Say, the stolen bikes are gathering by the thousands
A 60-something guy trying to figure out the world, and his place in it.
Happily married for 40-plus years, three wonderful sons.

Great Song. 🙂 Never heard it before. Even though I love Hall and Oates and have a few of their albums. Didn’t know they were from Philadelphia either.
My cousin just posted this on Facebook which is kind of crazy because I’m the one that made that video! I’m glad you enjoyed it and I’m glad you shared it here for more people to see. If you go to my YouTube channel there’s an updated version that I made last year same song different pictures
