I’m guessing that many of you have already seen this video, and if you have, it’s worth seeing again.
If you haven’t seen it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (it’s at the end of the post).
The video of 11-month old Thomas A. was recorded by his mom while they were at a music class for babies and young children. A violinist, Laura Zawarski, began playing the Elvis classic “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and Thomas was immediately hooked. He walked right up to Laura, sat down at her feet, and just stared up at her and the violin. It was obviously love at first sight and sound.
Thomas then stood up and got as close as possible to Laura, giving her a hug around the leg.
It was clear that the music had touched something deep inside Thomas, and he wanted to be as close to it, and Laura, as possible.
I’ve never seen a better example of what music can do to us, the way it can move us emotionally. And I’ve never seen a better way to express one’s love for music than the hug Thomas gave Laura. It was as if he was trying to hug the music itself to show his love.
It reminds me of how powerful music can be, and makes me think about some of the best moments in my life, and how they were often accompanied by music.
The video also reminds of what a powerful tool technology can be, from capturing the video to sharing it on social media for the world to see.
So a big thank you to Thomas’ mom.
And by the way, I’d love to see his reaction the first time he hears Josh Groban singing, George Winston on the piano, or Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band playing Born to Run.
