Hey NRA – You Cannot Be Serious!

The NRA has reached a new low.

It has taken a classic children’s fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood, and revised the story line by inserting its own agenda into the narrative.

The new story is called “Little Red Riding Hood (Has a Gun)“. In this version, Little Red Riding Hood gets a rifle for her birthday, and carries it with her as she sets off through the woods to her Grandmother’s house. When the wolf arrives at the Grandmother’s house, he is surprised to learn that the Grandmother also has a shotgun. She is able to keep the wolf at bay until her granddaughter arrives, at which time the two of them tie up the wolf. Soon after, a huntsman arrives and takes the wolf away, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Is the NRA suggesting that children arm themselves with rifles? It’s also strange that the revised story doesn’t quite align with NRA chief Wayne LaPierre’s famous quote, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”, since there is no mention of the wolf having a gun. If the wolf had a gun, it’s certainly possible that the story would have ended quite differently.

The Huffington Post wrote a  great response to the NRA fairy tale, which included some classic tweets people were posting to Twitter of other fairy tales the NRA could tell, using the hashtag #NRAFairyTales.

Here are those tweets from the Huffington Post, as well as some additional ones from Twitter:

According to the Huffington Post, the NRA Family site notes that the Little Red Riding (Has a Gun) story, published last week, is just the first in a series of reimagined fairytales by author Amelia Hamilton, and promises that there are more revamped, gun-heavy classics to come.

I must admit I am looking forward to what twisted tale the NRA will tell next, but in the meantime I cannot help but conjure up the words of John McEnroe:
