A Christmas in July Commercial

montythepenguin

Since Amazon is trying to create a sort-of Christmas in July with its Prime Day today, I thought I would provide just the right commercial to go with such a “holiday”.

I had included this commercial in a previous post where I wrote about the U.S. Women’s World Cup victory. However, it seems as if a few readers thought the only video in that post was the Nike “American Woman” commercial for women’s soccer, and so they ended up missing out on this great commercial.

This commercial won a Grand Prix at last month’s Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity, which selects the top commercials in a variety of categories. Here is a link to an article that lists, and includes links to, the Grand Prix winners in each category

This commercial is a British ad for Monty the Penguin that was designed to get people in the right mood for the Christmas holiday. This commercial would have been my favorite of all the ones on this year’s Cannes list even if it had ended at 1:45, but the last 15 seconds make it one of the best ever. It reminds me of my favorite comic strip of all-time… Enjoy this little bit of Christmas in July; perhaps you are now in the right mood to head on over to Amazon’s Prime Day.

I had also written a previous post on how much I enjoyed the Clorox commercials that had the theme of Life’s Bleachable moments. Well apparently I missed one, so in order to make my collection complete, here is the third one in that series:

And while I’m updating things, I just wanted to follow up on my post about the Craigslist ad that seemed to be a scam. As it turned out, it was a scam. I was able to get in touch with the real owner of the property through VRBO. We talked on the phone, and he told me in no uncertain terms that he had not placed an ad on Craigslist and that I should not send a money order to the person I had contacted via Craigslist.

As a result of this discovery, I feel like I just saved $1,500.

Maybe I’ll check out Amazon after all…
